SGA orders Zimpler to cease promoting illegal gambling

6?July?2023

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Swedish Gaming Authority (Spelinspektionen) ordered Zimpler AB to cease providing payment service solutions containing BankID to gaming companies that lack a Swedish gaming license.

According to the Swedish Gaming Authority's assessment, it is clear that Zimpler cooperates with and offers its payment service solution containing BankID to gaming companies that lack a Swedish gaming license. In light of the fact that BankID is an e-identification service that is only used by Swedish customers, the Gambling Inspectorate assesses that the gambling companies are targeting the Swedish market.

If Zimpler does not stop promoting illegal gambling by 31 July 2023, it will have to pay a fine of SEK 25 million. This decision takes effect immediately.

The Swedish gambling regulations are based on the fact that everyone who acts on the Swedish market must have a license and that actors without a license must be shut out. The aim is for gambling to be channeled to offers from responsible, reliable and controllable players. Since 1 January 2023, it is not permitted to promote participation in games that are provided without the necessary license in professional activities or otherwise for gainful purposes (chapter 3, section 7 of the Gaming Act).
