yoast is the best, but no enough, most part must be done by yourself
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Most of my pages are green but there are also a few that are amber. Time will tell which performs better. I'll come back and post an up date once I have a good sample of data/traffic.
I'm not sure if wordpress is strong in SEO.
It may be that many people are using it.
Wordpress itself is not really strong or weak in seo itself, it is just a platform to render the content out of the database in html format.
Based on the such widespread use, it is the single platform with the most tools to help with seo though, and can not be overlooked.

What does the core of a CMS has to do with SEO? Google isn't looking at your php scripts, or admin page. If anything the theme that you pick will affect the overall representation and even then it probably affects your positions by 0.1%, but will affect how your users interact, and their overall experience, which should be your main goal anyways.
RankMath, Yoast, w/e else would be sufficient enough for 99.99% of the Wordpress users, and NO doing it yourself doesn't give you any advantages. Bottom line, quality theme + cloudflare for speed and security + some seo plugin for schema and titles and you should be set.

I just started using RankMath.. switched from Yoast. I was impressed, and did the upgrade to pro. They have an AI Content reviewer tool that actually helps a ton when trying to figure out what other keywords to target in the same post or page.
My setup currently.. RankMath + LiteSpeed utilizing their quic.cloud CDN, WordFence Security
