WordPress Plug-In Problem

Hi All

I have just started learning WordPress and i must strongly admit that it is a powerfull tool! I am very happy with this CMS platform but one thing that i could not solve up to this moment is adding some of the plug-in's. I want some plugins show at the soecific location of any page or or post page. It says in the installations that "place the shortcode" in the code of the oage. Where shoul i insert it ? I mean via which menu item in WordPress ? I see that only activating the plugin is not enough. You have to add some coding. Could you please briefly help me ?

Click on "Editor" under the "Appearance" tab, and then edit the file following the installation instructions. Be careful not to mess anything up, as these are your template files for every page/post/etc..

Depending on where you want it to show up, you may have to add it to a few different files.

shortcode is used in the wordpress posts and pages.

so if you have a plugin like the "table reloaded" plugin, after creating the table using the plugin - you will be given a short code like [tablereload=2]

the shortcode you must insert into a post - in the body section. click save.
and refresh the frontpage of your wordpress site - and your shortcode should translate to what it should be.

Exactly... shortcodes from a plugin are written in this format [shortcode]

Shortcodes is an easy way to place the plugins content anywhere on the site, instead of having to modify the .php file or make use of the widgets (which can only be placed in the widget area).

Some plugins however are not really clear what shortcode to enter, so check the documentation of the plugin if you can not find it quickly.

I use wordpress for one of my sites as well... The WinYourWay one...
The template I used was one that I purchased and there were a ton of mods done to the backend to get it where it is today.
Wordpress can be a little overwhelming at first but once you get the hang of it you will realize how powerful it is.
One thing to consider as well, it make sure you get a bunch of the security plugins installed from the get go.
Since WP is open source and user driven, this means it is more open to attacks from undesirables....
So make sure you do some research and get all those plugins first so your hard work does not go to waste...
Good luck with your WP site... I have a bunch more in the works right now.

I've been making sites for over 2,5 years now only using WP. I am totally hooked. WP has developed a lot over the years. Like Winyouway is sayin, be careful with plugins. As some are not that reputable and can really mess up your site. See also (especially if you are a beginner) if the plugin in compatible with the version of WP you are using. Also when you purchase a template, some plugins are not compatible with the themes, tip might be to check with the seller if they tried a certain plugin.

From a hosting point of view are you guys confident in WP? I've basically got a choice to make - either get an affiliate program site built on WP and have full control, or hand over the reins to Net Refer and let them build & host a Micro site. I'd be more confident in Net Refer's hosting ability, but that's probably because WP is free and there usually is no such thing as a free lunch :P

WordPress is updated regularly so I would suggest using a theme and plugins from reputable sources who will then also update their products to be compatible with the latest release of WordPress. It is always vital to upgrade to the latest WP version for security reasons.

Be careful of using unknown plugins or plugins from dodgy websites as they could be used as a back-door to infiltrate your site.

WordPress is free but to get it customized so that your affiliate program can operate properly will take a lot of customization. If you're not doing it yourself you will have to pay somebody to do it for you anyway. So either way it's going to cost you a bit of moolah.

Wordpress.. if you are worried about hosting, use bluehost.com - wordpress recommend it.

With wordpress, if you are going to do all the work, it can be a steep learning curve depending on your skill sets and tech knowledge to make the site look sexy.

With things like onsite seo, plugins are a huge lifesaver, and most things are done in a couple of clicks to make your new content page seo friendly.
Plugins - you will be able to find pretty much any plugin for anyting you need - and theres a lot of them, but the trick is finding the right mix and match of plugins so they don't over lap each or drain resources. When it comes to knowing what to use - hit us a message on here, and we'll tell you all!

I've been playing around with wordpress for the past 5 or so years, I can code plugins and get it to do things which it wasn't made to do - but one thing I can't do ... is make it look good. I really suck when it comes to make things look sexy. I can't even dress myself properly

You do find some plugins conflict with other, all in one seo can conflict with robots.txt pluggins and robots meta. getting back to the original subject, casinorecommender, are you looking to have things like widgets showing up only on certain pages? like for example, you want a banner to show on the home page in the header, but not on the contact page? Widget Logic is the plugin for this. If i have missunderstood, sorry, its friday and im on my 3rd rum and coke

I am in the process of programming a new plug-in since I looked over the pictures from a recent convention and saw the need.

It will be named "whatshouldIweartoday" plugin and I will, be sure to see that Rak gets a copy......

i agree with you dressing is a problem in WP but it is a flexible and efficient CMS platform. I recommend GoDaddy WP hosting as well. It is really fast enough.
