Default What's Your Take on Mobile Betting ?

There's a lot of talk these days regarding mobile gambling and the amount of growth it is seeing year after year.

I remember sitting at a poker table with a friend 5+ years ago watching him make bets with his Motorola flip phone online somewhere. I was blown away that the technology existed on a mobile.

Now it all makes sense....it seems like the perfect fit for a punter to be able to place a bet on the go.

But why do desktops still account for more traffic than mobile devices?

Are punters comfortable placing bets on their phone? Or are they happier being in front of a computer screen?

Although my main focus is mobile casino, I also have a mobile betting section on several sites. I've promote it for 5+ years now and despite targeted sem campaigns, it never generated any serious revenue. Same goes for mobile poker.

So for now, mobile casinos and mobile bingo are much more accepted in my experience.

Did you see a low registration rate as well?

I wonder why players are more likely to play mobile casino games but not make mobile bets.

Also, it's possible that they could sign up for an account on their desktop or laptop, and then make future bets on their mobile.
It's likely you wouldn't have that statistical breakdown yet on your end yet.

Which ad network did you perform the SEM campaign on? Mobile specific?

as a punter as well as an affiliate my opinion is that you go on your phone if you're stuck in the pub or something and you get the basic site, just bang your bet on then get back to what you're doing. You can do so much more on a laptop and it is much easier than on a phone. From what i've seen mobile betting offers convenience and not much more

By "so much more on a laptop" do you mean by doing research?
Also, are the sites you use on your phone mobilized? Is it an app? Or just a basic browsing page that you must navigate.

Maybe mobile is better suited for making 'live odds' bets, as this is when most punters can take advantage of constantly updated odds while taking back a pint at the bar.

i've used blue square, boylesports, betvictor and betfair on mobile, both apps and online through the phone browser and neither are as good as a laptop. you can see all the pages properly so have to hunt around the page, you just don't get the same info all on one page on your phone. also you can't easily have 3-4 pages open and bomb around doing research. im sure if you gave most people a phone and a laptop and said make some bets they'd go straight for the laptop

All my traffic was was mobile and the sem campaigns were on AdWords and AdCenter mobile.
Most programs offer mobile friendly sites, so I think thebookies is right in saying that it's just too much hassle on the tiny screens. Playing casino and bingo games is much easier imho.

We have seen quite a large amount of registrations across mobile scratch games and slots BUT no major conversions yet. Been pushing this for about a year and a half now.

We've had some great success on mobile with regards to the better known brands however that has been mostly by users visiting a "direct call for action" splash page instead of the standard homepages we are used to seeing, with lots of links and other reasons for users to escape from the clincher page.

Brand plays a big part in mobile acquisitions with most preferring to deposit at a bookie that has been seen on television and/or have been around for a long time.

New brands have not been as successful, bingo and poker work ok but the casino industry for one is not something that has proved fruitful, given the sizes of mobile screens, it still isn't large enough for a great experience, sports betting though is a quick case of checking the odds then filling in the blanks.

I couldn't agree more with this point. Players are most comfortable depositing and placing wagers on brands that they recognize/trust.
Being a former professional poker player (mostly internet based), I was only comfortable playing on the bigger sites (We all know what ended up happening with Full Tilt......).

I feel like casino games still work, as normally a game (slots, blackjack, roulette) don't require a large screen to play. Although it will be tougher to multi-task (as you could on a desktop/laptop), it is quite easy for players to enjoy a casino game on their mobiles.
