    Default Top 12 SEO Tips for 2012 (Including Panda & The Knowledge Graph)

    TIP #1 OF 12 TOP SEO TIPS FOR 2012
    LATENT SEMANTIC ANALYSIS AND LATENT SEMANTIC INDEXING

    Google's New Knowledge Graph
    16 May, 2012 - Google has for some, and is for others, releasing The Knowledge Graph Google Blogspot also mentions it here on the Google Blog.

    I think you need to do 2 things to take advantage of this update;

    Optimise your images and videos (I'll cover in a later tip). Create PDF's of the important pages, especially the ones with links and publish optimised graphs that you have made that relate to your industry. Use long tail and related terms, or Latent Semantic terminology.

    Take this #1 tip regarding the all-encompassing integration of Latent Semantics into your every technique and apply it to everything you do from here on out, especially back links.

    Hittail & Latent Semantics ?Hittail tracks in real-time what search engine and keyword/keyword strings sent the end-user to your account. These are done in real-time and register every keyword versus Google Analytics or similar programs that bunch keyword sets. This can be exported and used for long tail and Latent Semantic content. Latent semantics are basically defined as relevant, but not exact, alternative keywords. So a 'Jumper' in England is a 'Sweater' in the US. A 'Ute' in Australia is the same as a 'Truck' in the US or a 'Lory' in the states. Google, as well as other search engines, are claiming their algorithms are smart enough to know that if you are searching 'Lory' in the UK that you mean a truck/ute and not a parrot.

    This is where latent semantic analysis and content become so important.

    Tip: You will see a trend in every Tip, Trick and Tool in this session/document. This is the fact that virtually everything considers Latent Semantics.
    Tip: The other MAIN point I want to make is that content is #2 on my list of crucial element. You can't be completely lazy on this one.

    My method for content is to;
    Search my targeted term on Google News in my target country and language
    Look over the available articles and choose one that is around 500 words
    Use The Best Spinner to spin the article until it is 60% unique. This will be very difficult until you master The Best Spinner. This must be a manual spin so don't get lazy right now! First go to your settings and turn on /select the best match' and let it spin
    Hand-check all suggestions and eliminate the dumb ones and add any that you identify as making sense but not present.

    Here's the key ?From this point pull the keyword sets that you get from Hittail (remember these are terms that are already sending traffic to your site) and integrate them into the content.

    Save the keywords that you used in a separate file and send these to your link builders to use or you can use them as anchor text for your back links and social media strategies.

    FACTS:
    • The average search term query was two to four keywords 5 years ago. Today they are three to seven keywords. Search users are getting smarter.
    • 1 out of 4 search queries are being searched for the first time every day. That's somewhere around 750 million queries per day.
    • These searches represent 60% of all daily conversions

    I use Hittail to collect the terms that are already bringing traffic to my site and send them to my content writers with the instructions to incorporate as many terms as possible and send me back the ones that were used. Then I use this list to build links back the page. This gives you a sufficient number of relevant keywords to acquire links to and still surpass the red flags Google has put in place to identify unnatural linking schemes. It also mixes your link anchor text with latent semantically correct keywords.

    Default Google Analytics

    As an alternative, Google is now serving up 2000 rather than 1000 of the top terms sending traffic to your site in Google Analytics.

    Default TIP #2 OF 12 TOP SEO TIPS FOR 2012 - Misspellings

    Top 12 SEO Tips for 2012 (Including Panda & The Knowledge Graph)
    TIP #2 OF 12 TOP SEO TIPS FOR 2012

    Target Misspellings in Your PPC and SEO Strategies NOW ?Google Is making changes (well, they are changing back) to misspellings rather than the exclusive ?'Did you mean this?' or 'Here are the results for what we thought you meant' and 'click here if you actually want the results from your original search'. Target your competitions brands and any name brands that you carry.

    This is most effective when setting up Adwords campaigns as Google has identified yet another potential profit center/hole that they believe they can squeeze a few more reddies from ppc managers.

    "Starting in mid-May, phrase and exact match keywords will match close variants, including misspellings, singular/plural forms, stemmings, accents and abbreviations," Google explained.

    So it begs the question, what's going to happen to the Quality Score since it is based off of CTR and Landing Page conversions? How do we combat this? And if misspellings work for PPC, how will they work for SEO?

    If I target one of the most expensive, as well as lucrative keywords like Mesothelioma?

    Do I create landing pages for both PPC and SEO?

    Here are some additional alternative common misspellings:

    Mesotheieomia
    Mesotheilioma
    Mesotheiloma
    Mesothelaoma
    Mesothelemoa
    Mesothelemona
    Mesotheleomia
    Mesothelianoma
    Mesothelima
    Mesothelimioma

    I have only showed 10 misspellings. Using a misspelling tool like the one over on https://tools.seobook.com/spelling/keywords-typos.cgi can generate 230+ misspelled keywords using missed or extra keys and spaces, surrounding letters and reverse or duble letters.

    So what to do?

    Do we create 233 landing pages? Do we keyword stuff? And how does this fit into Googles Latent Semantic algorithms? Do I need 230+ back links to rank for these terms?

    I think the safe and most effective way to accomplish this would be to take the original top 10 most common misspelled keywords and use these for PPC and SEO purposes. For PPC I would actually create a misspelling adgroup, and for SEO create a few links using the misspelling, but also the surrounding misspellings. For PPC I would use all of the above keywords in the adgroup keywords. I haven't tried this yet but Google says where it used to reject misspellings, now it won't.

    From an SEO standpoint I think I would start by creating a page about the misspelling of the term and link out to pages that actually use the misspelled term. I would install analytics and identify the top misspellings and concentrate on those.

    Not a perfect strategy but if Google takes a second look at this in a month or two and decides its not worth confusing the Quality Score algorithm or its end-users and turns everything off then all your hard work will have gone to hell in a handbasket.

    My other question is how will brand bidding fit into this scenario? Brand bidding (to some extent) is permitted in the EU but not in the US. In fact each country seems to be on a state-by-state (case-by-case) basis...

    EXCEPT when its not in Google's favor;

    Searching for Goggle you get;

    But when you search for Biingo you get;

    Funny thing though, Google will correct Goggle automatically and show Google, but when you search ALO instead of AOL (the most obvious choice considering its a top 100 global site - but a competitor!) AOL is not in the top 10 anywhere?

    So do I start buying up misspelled TLD's like;
    • CalvinKline.co.uk
    • Diesle.net
    • EddieBaure.org
    • LizClaiborn.co.uk

    (okay so who's going to go buy these available misspelled domains that I found in 5 minutes?)

    and get an affiliate deal?

    I have a lot of questions

    Here's another one;

    Google's fixed my ridiculous search term for an obvious misspelled word 'goggle' to show their results when I may be a scuba diver (Hey - I am!) and searching for goggles (Hey I was!!).

    Guess what?

    Google again...

    But heck, if TheFreeDictionary.com can't get it right then who are we but mere mortals?

    So your guess is as good as mine as to what to do next, but misspellings are definitely back in the long tail and niche pool and what goes for Google doesn't always go for the rest of us...yet again. Those Ducks!

    (oops, a misspelling. I wonder if Google will look at my emails and see its a word I tend to use and deliver me the correct spelling)

    Top 12 SEO Tips for 2012 (Including Panda & The Knowledge Graph)
    TIP #3 OF 12 TOP SEO TIPS FOR 2012 - Equip Yourself

    My toolbox

    Onlywire – This tool takes a bit of time to set up but its well worth it. It takes (currently) 40-45 social bookmarking sites, Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious, Mister.Wong, etc., and creates an interface that allows you to post bookmarks on each of these accounts with one click. Tip; When setting up your social bookmarking accounts and the email to verify them, use the same email and password for your email and your bookmark accounts. This makes it easier in the end...trust me.

    Tweet Adder – This is an Uber Powerful tool for Twitter. First off why use it? Because a strong Twitter account will rank top 10 for your brand and potentially bump a competitor or scraping Affiliate out of the top 3 or top 10 for your brand (Just like Facebook, Press Releases, PDF's and YouTube will). What does it do? It completely automates your Twitter account and also an unlimited number of additional Twitter accounts. It will automatically post tweets, retweets, replies, and thank you's. It also searches out people that you can add to your auto-follow list by searching profiles, user followers and followed users, groups and your competitors followers. So if I sell fashion I would scrape the followers of Vogue fashion because they have over a million. Tip: Don't worry about massive lists right now. Target competitors with 100 -1000 followers and save them using the competitors name and number of followers as the file name. (e.g. fashionMogul.com – 456.txt). Tip: Take the time to set up Tweets, Replies, Thank You's and Other Messages in an csv formatted file. Add a hash tag or link in these. They will take a bit of time to do because you need at least 10 of each and they need to be spun. What I do in order is this; Search for related Tweet accounts in Listorious.com and save them. I start with competitors and then product/service keywords. Save these in individual files with the keyword as the file name. Create a 140 max character Tweet (which Tweet Adder has a built in spinner)and create 10 spins using your hash tag and your competitors hash tag. Upload to that account. Repeat this with Replies and Thank You's.

    You can also preschedule your tweets and leak them out as slowly as you want . Be sure to use a URL shortener like bit.ly or goo.gl (mix them up because occasionally they will delete the URL for misuse). Tip: Occasionally watch your Tweet Adder log file tab and identify any issues with l ogins as Twitter has been more aggressive toward spam Twitter accounts which these basically are, so use them with caution. I halved the settings that came with the default setting. Tip 2: Once you have your accounts set up add each account to the rest in the retweet tool. Every time you tweet on one the rest will retweet that account. So I send out 2 tweets per day and 55 other accounts retweet that users tweet. This equates to 1000 Tweets and 2-4000 retweets using 55 accounts. Then I add IFTTT.com to repost the Twitter accounts to Facebook. IFTTT (If This Then That) is another useful and free tool to set this type of scenario up with multiple social media accounts that activate each other. I'll cover this more later.

    Scrapebox - Harvest thousands of URL’s from Google, Yahoo and Bing in seconds! With inbuilt footprints for finding Wordpress and Movable Type blog posts, you can gather lists of links that are highly relevant to your keywords and niche. Great for researching competitors, finding new blogs to comment on, doing product research or even gathering facts and info for your next blog post or article. You can also send referrers/hits through multiple proxies to simulate traffic. In select cases you can affect rankings by artificially sending traffic to the site.

    There is an RSS submitter, auto blog poster, proxy verifier and a mass trackback poster. I won't get too much into the good and bad (white, grey & black) uses for this powerful software but its there to learn.

    SENukeX – What can I say about this tool. Its definitely BlackHat but it can be used in white/grey hat ways as well. Basically this tool will automatically do the following;
    Submit to article submission sites
    Submit to social bookmark sites
    Submit to directories
    Submit press releases
    Create forum profiles and email accounts
    Submit for indexing
    Submit via Web 2.0
    Auto ping all of the above.
    The beauty of this powerful software is that you can use pre-built process diagrams to run some or all of the tasks, or get bespoke diagrams from other users in the blog/forum. The other is that you can set them up to run for weeks in advance. Tip: I use Fiverr.com sometimes simply because for $5 they can be instructed to send me spreadsheets with all the submissions and posted URL's and I can just summarize the document in a monthly report and attach it for the client to see.

    NOTE: The Penguin update is targeting forum signatures so I would avoid using these for now.

    **Tip: The key to this program working incredibly or incredibly failing is unique, well-written, grammatically checked (I use diagrammatically) and spell checked content. This is where Hittail, Google Analytics and Domain Tools.

    Raven Tools – Raven Toolbox has a ton of value for the money, especially if you have to report to clients or “The Suits”. I like it because it creates graphs and tables that they all like to see, because they can't grasp, or don't want raw data. It is also useful to monitor your rankings by country and search engine (although I prefer RankTracker by SEO PowerSuite for tracking), and more significantly 20 different social media accounts. It monitors positive and negative comments as well and gives comparison time frames. It has link management and link monitoring tools, Adwords integration for uniform graphs and campaign monitoring, bespoke reports on all the above or just bits and pieces, and much more.

    Fiverr.com & Similar Sites – You need Facebook likes? G+ adds? Twitter followers? Verified email accounts? (even the ones that need phone verification?) I also use these guys for 30 second (killer) flash intro's or .mov files that I can use for YouTube (then I buy 100 YouTube accounts and use Tube Adder to syndicate it to all the accounts and knock another competitor/affiliate out of my top 10 brand rankings).

    ***Screaming Frog*** – A great tool for weekly analysis and general on-page SEO. It pulls all your code and segments it. From here you can sort by column and filter html-only files and quickly identify duplicate home pages, duplicate titles, descriptions, H1-H3 tags, in links, outlines and canonicalisation. I have this on my Monday ToDo list because if a lot of people are involved with the site, the chances of a programmer not deleting a duplicated homepage like .com, .com/html, .com.asp, or .ro and getting you penalized by Google for duplication, or worse, splitting back link juice across several URL's because they are there and not all link posters use the same URL (e.g. https://yoursite.com, www.yoursite.com, etc). Tip: Use the following queries to identify if you have links pointing to both domains.[links: www.yourwebsite.com, links: www.yourwebsite.com/index.html, links: www.yourwebsite.com/index, etc. Use Screaming Frog to identify the ones that exist and need to have a 301 put in place.

    Xenu – A great tool that is similar to Screaming Frog, except that it will create xml site maps automatically each day and upload them via an FTP program. Google is eliminating their xml site map tool so you really need to do this, especially if you are adding fresh content every day. This will designate the content as yours...before a competitor or scraper publishes it and pings it to get it indexed before Google visits your site.

    Majestic SEO
    - This back link History Tool allows SEOs to determine the number of back links The Bulk Back link Checker is a valuable time saver when all you want is backlink counts for many domains. Using the simple form, just enter a few domains and it returns the external backlink counts. Referring domain counts can be found for domains. A well-configured server can easily serve requests for a large number of domains for a single IP. You can learn a lot about a web site by seeing the neighbors it keeps - or, in technical terms, the sites hosted on the same IP. I found a penalized bingo site that sat on a server that hosted 20+ other bingo sites that were all running on the same platform, therefor they were penalized for duplication (Google sees code too!)
    It also shows back link history for your competitors and can identify potential link partners (although for this task i use SEO Spyglass and Link Assistant with the next tool; SEO PowerSuite

    SEO PowerSuite – Includes the Following;
    Rank Tracker - Includes the modules for keyword research and for fast search engine ranking tracking as if you were in that country. Delivers client-facing html and branded reports to demonstrate progress to clients. Can be setup to run and email or publish to the web automatically on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule. This is the best rank tracker I has used and I have tried them all. Tip: Use rotating proxies to prevent Google captcha penalty for over-search - e.g.proxiesforrent.com
    Link Assistant - Works for all link management tasks from building link directories to establishing link partnerships. Includes the exporting and reporting facilities.
    SEO Spyglass - Finds over 100,000 competitor back links and shapes your link-building strategy. Allows quick export of data and client reporting.
    Website Auditor - Deals with website structure and content SEO optimization. Generates XML Site maps. Produces exports and optimization reports.

    I'll steer away from the likes of XRumer, 302 HiJacks and the rest really Black Hat stuff because there will inevitably bet a novice (and a lazy one) that will try to use those types of tool and get penalised, and then its all ny fault.

    At the end of the day if you spend ANY time at all targeting your competition with seedy methods then you aren't the type of SEO I want to potentially help out.

    Use these tools in a way that you can sleep at night and not worry if a guy like me is on the other side because repayment is 10-fold and definitely not worth the time.

    Spend it on promoting your site or your clients and with time and patience you will kill em' all.

    Thanks Gary,

    I wasn't aware google went back to the misspellings. I will admit when I started doing this I actually get alot of conversions by using misspellings as "big boys" would always have the correct spellings. Interesteting this is back.
