When selling a domain or website in a forum should the seller set a price or fish for offers?

It's best for the seller to set a price for the item on sale.
It's better for the seller to let potential buyers make an offer for the item on sale.

It's difficult to answer.
If I'm buying something I would ask the seller to give me his best price, if he asks me for an offer well I can even make a ridiculous offer. So to ask the question, if I'm selling, I'll put a price to it.

If there are many potencial buyers, to receive an offer is better than setting a price.

Better to set a price, especially these days. There are so many offering domains and old site and huge prices that unless a price, or at least a guide price, is listed, most ignore the sale.
I know I've inquired about sites that are for sale. No revenue and many $$$$$ to buy - makes no sense. Potential isn't worth an awful lot.
If you were very confident in the value of your domain or site and wanted to get the highest price possible, wouldn't it be better to indicate a price expectation range or place it on an auction and set a reserve price?
I've made a few offers on domains and sites where the seller wasn't prepared to set a price. My offer obviously was way off the mark so they decide to just ignore me, instead of coming back to say I was way off the mark and would need to make a better offer. Some sellers need to learn to negotiate and not be offended by low offers which is to be expected if you don't set a price.

Selling a website on a forum suggests that we're not talking about a money machine generating millions. In that case, I would just set the price. Not setting a price means you get a lot of offers that are too low or requests for information by people that do not have serious intentions to buy or to pay a reasonable price.
If it's about a money maker, I would contact just some of the "super affiliates". They have the money, the buy if it's interesting, they have experience with this kind of transactions, etc. Ask a few of them, compare prices, negotiate a bit and make the deal.
