Nah, we thought we'd just let the operators have all the traffic this time. Just kidding, of course we are!

I hope the Olympics work out and that Athletes get to do what they do best and entertain ... it looks from the outside that Rio is falling apart .Zika Virus. Water with dead bodies and where they say 3 teaspoons will make you sick and you should compete with your mouth closed .. Boat ramps collapsing , Australian Athletes getting Mugged doesn't bode well for a great event and it will be a shame oh let us not forget them Russians that may or may not have taken drugs but are allowed to compete ... as a Village that's just not 100% ready .. could make for some very interesting Bets though

If I had a sportsbook site I would be all over the Olympics. I wonder what how much money is bet on the Olympics verses say the Super Bowl or other big betting sporting events.

Re: Zika. One thing that kind of makes me mad is the number of golfers that pulled out because of the virus. I mean its the Olympics for peat sake and its the first time golf has been back in years. The golfers that pulled out are pretty much all young males who really do not need to be that concerned with the virus. Yes you may contract it and get a little sick but you are not going to die. I lost a little respect for the guys that pulled out. Just do it for your sport and do it for your fans.

Not that much is bet on the Olympics ... so no you wouldn't ..

The opening weekends of the European club football season (England Premier League starts next weekend) will be 10 x bigger than Olympics turnover IMO.

    Tennis players as well.

I see that Florida mosquitos now carry the Zika virus too ...
I'm sure that these golfers / tennis stars won't miss the big MONEY golf / tennis events in Florida ...

MONEY talks in pro sport ..
GOLF / TENNIS should not be part of the Olympics.

So far the Zika problem has been restricted to a small few square miles near Miami, but I am sure it is only a matter of time.

Rick - did I hear you just say ...
"So far the DETECTED Zika problem has been restricted to a small few square miles (AND TEN THOUSAND MOSQUITOES) near Miami" ?

Global travel makes it almost impossible to stop once it gets beyond airport security ...

Global travel makes it almost impossible to stop once it gets beyond airport security ...

Which means that it is only a matter of time that most states (such as the southern half of the US) as well as other countries where this particular mosquito breeds well and thrives also see an increase.

Since Florida has a good history of fighting other mosquito born viruses I am hoping they do a good job of helping to slow the spread, but you are correct it stands to reason this will continue to increase.

Zika is really here from those who have traveled to areas where it is prevalent, and then spreads from mosquitoes spreading from an infected person to those who have not traveled.

I wonder what percentage of increase in Olympic spectators there would be had it not been for the Zika risk?

    Edited to add:
Prior to the media coverage the last few months, Zika has been growing exponentially around the world.

Zika has been identified in mosquitoes in more than 60 countries and territories over the past year

Which I should have kind of figured. I consider myself a gambler and like to bet on just about anything but really have no interest in betting on the Olympics. I'm sure ill find a prop bet or two to waste a few dollars on but I wont be spending any big money.

Agreed TravG, I'll usually have a sports wager ... but there is very little value in the Olympic bets being offered.
All the favourites at very short prices - and difficult to find an interesting prop bet.

Does the betting activity increase dramatically toward the end or odes it stay that way throughout?

Are there any specific events which tend to draw more activity?

    Football and tennis are biggest.
Basketball can also get a following but the USA dominance kills interest a bit.

These are sports that have regular betting interest anyway - so bookmakers and punters are ready - and it's not a big leap to bet in the Olympic version.

Popular athletics events can also get a bit of action - but it's nearly always on the heavy favourite to win at very low odds.

One athletics option that looks good right now is :

Womens Shot Put - Christina SCHWANITZ (Germany) to win at 3.00 ... that is odds of +200 to you USA punters.

She is second favourite behind New Zealand athlete (and defending Olympic Champion) Valerie Adams.
But Adams has had 12-15 months of surgery and rehab - and although she is back - she is not at her best.

Turnover in the opening match days for England Premier League, Bundesliga etc will be much bigger than Rio2016
Olympics is big event but you cannot compare for EURO or World cup in terms of Betting

The biggest disappointment for me is elimination of Novak Djokovic, Del Porto was awesome and he destroyed Novak. Now, nobody can stop Murray on the way to the title, do you agree?
These are today's matches with odds of mollybet, but now I'm little confused who will pass in the next round?
    Kyle Edmund - Taro Daniel 1.360/ 3.272
Roberto Bautista Agut - Paolo Lorenzi 1.140/5.761
Philipp Kohlschreiber - Andrej Martin 1.190/4.703
Gael Monfils - Rogerio Dutra Da Silva 1.070/8.142
    Gilles Muller - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3.120/1.390
Juan Martin del Potro - João Sousa 1.260/3.941
Radu Albot - Marin Cilic 6.000/1.130
