Default A Question For Siteground Users With Multiple Sites

Does anyone here with multiple sites on the same siteground package (eg: growbig) know if they're distributed over multiple servers and IPs like they used to do with gridhost or are the on the same server?

I've just heard that gridhost are shutting down and I need somewhere to shift a series of holding pages that I don't want all on the same server / IP....

I doubt whether this is enough to answer the question satisfactorily, but I have two sites on the same SG package. They obviously both are pointed at the same NS...and I'm 100% sure if I added another 1,2,3 they would all point at the same NS, too...

....but due to semi-technical level idiocy (or maybe higher), I have no idea if that answers the question or if there is some other layer of distribution/connectivity behind that.

If there is, and you can somehow use the domains to glean more info, I'm happy to share the names (or go look in SG if that's what it takes)

Yeah the nameservers would be the same, I'm more interested in what the underlying server and IP is - if you're happy to share the URLs that could answer my question, thanks!

I have multiple Siteground accounts and GrowBig packages, and websites withing one package are located on the same IP. You can see this information in the main dashboard page.

You could try using a plugin like livehosts to see what the header response is and it may or may not provide more info in to whether the site is answering from same phsical/virtual host.

If he sites are load balanced between more then one server it might answer one way at one point and differently the next.

Depending on the type of load balancing or cluster just going by ip alone may not determine it, since the ip could be "natted" to more then one server with a weight system.

Example, using something like a loadmaster to balance web traffic, the servers might all be 192.168.x.x ip's and the loadmaster distributes the public traffic to them.
This can also be done through routers or big iron switches with routing.

I've seen this both ways now, where sometimes it's on the same IP and other times it's not. I'm not sure of why it differs though.

Unless perhaps they've changed their system at some point and older/newer packages are treated differently?

Maybe this is because of the age of accounts. I assume that some old accounts share the same IPs, while new accounts have some kind of grid IP.

I would think it is more that when the domain or site is added in, it auto selects an ip from the pool of available list in the subnets routed to the group of servers.

Yeah that's one of the things I was trying to figure out. On gridhost they assigned IPs and servers based on the first letter (eg: they had an A server and set of IPs and a B, C, D server and so on..) which meant you kind of knew where the site would end up.

I actually ended up talking to support at siteground for a while and had to jump through the normal "I'm not going to directly answer your question and instead tell you why we're great and how you don't need to know what you're asking us about" before finally being told that each package is assigned to a single server (although the first person I spoke to told me they were distributed across multiple servers, but I think they were wrong).

So long story short is one package = one server, but there is a pool of IPs used by that server. Meaning that all sites will be on same server and there's a chance that you might get different IPs but there's also a strong chance it'll be the same.
