New Partners System

Quick question regarding the new partners.betus.com system.

The stats/matchups tool seems to have disappeared. This was really useful - is it going to make a reappearance.

Secondly, are old links and widgets still tracking players and if so, how long will they continue to do so.

We’re very excited about the new BetUS Partners site but we do have a few more improvements to make. The matchup tool and widget currently works and will track your players, there are no tracking issues. The marketing tools will be posted on the Partners site either Monday or Tuesday.

There will be some obvious improvements you’ll appreciate like real time stats tracking. The tracking for this platform has already been tested and your Affiliate ID number will remain the same. What has changed is the URL tracking code, it’s gone from html code to javascript code. Please note that the previous html code will still track your referrals as it always has. I would recommend replacing all the old BetUS (html) links on your site with the new javascript links as you’ll be able to take advantage of the real time reporting and stat tracking. <o>

What has changed is the URL tracking code, it’s gone from html code to javascript code.

This is flawed thinking to start with.

The first problem is that if visitors have javascript turned off they will NOT be tracked and depending on the format of the link, they can't even click thru.

Another reason it's flawed, if an affiliate uses any kind of database backend, or php style of delivering or handling of their links they can not use your javascript links.

If you have in fact changed the style of links that you recommend affiliates use, and only affiliates that already have the html links will continue to use them, you are limiting the ability of new affiliates, and it will likely only be a matter of time before the html links stop tracking if affiliates from this point forward will only be supplied with javascript links.

Your not an affiliate with us so you might not be aware of the recent changes with our program. I can assure you that we are able to track all referrals for affiliates who are still using older linking stuctures and or those who have adopted the newer javascript links. Either way it's has less to do with the link being HTML or Javascript based and more to do with how we pass and record the cookies.

Well, I would rather discuss non-personal things like links and teracking and stats and stuff here where my peers can also see the outcome and possibnly learn from the discussion as well.

Since I am not already a "current" affiliate with your program I guess I can't access "older linking stuctures" as you put it so I would NOT be interested in any kind of javascript links....so I guess that leaves me out.

The links on most of my sites are contained within a database and handled through a php redirect script which grabs the link from the database.

NONE of that can take place with a javascript based link.

And it still doesn't adress the visitor that has javascript turned off, how can you capture the cookie data since the cookie wasn't set? Javascript would have to be turned on for the cookie to be set.

Existing partners, who obviously wished for no disruption to the norm, were also a big factor in our decision to offer both variations of code. <o>

The number of browsers with JavaScript turned off has been steadily decreasing over the years; and at last count represents a very small percentage. Hardly anything works today without JavaScript including Gmail, Hotmail, PayPal and most banking sites. In fact, our own join page for players doesn't work unless JavaScript is enabled.

</o> The problem you experience with your link database is not something that I can help with unfortunately. If you put Google analytics on your site, the code will be entirely JavaScript. We are not doing anything differently than Google is in that respect.<o></o>

For such a pleasant and professional response, had I to depend upon solely the response of Travis I would not even take another look at your program.

To clarify, I have ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUE with my database of links that I use from all the other affiliate programs because all of those programs give me a straight html link I can use.

Travis did not clarify in his post that html links are still available, and the way the original post was worded gave me the impression that from this point forward ONLY javascript links will be provided.

Personally I do NOT want to start using javascript links now or in the near future since I do not want to lose that very small percentage as you put it.

Also, when attempting to build sites that validate, adding additional javascript also can add a fair amount of time and additional work to get the code to validate, depending on the doctype used, so this too is a factor for some affiliates.

I would like to point out that I find BetUS to be very honest and forthright when it comes to tracking and they do not shy away from answering questions. I do not like using java script links either and I don't use them on any of my sites. However, I agree with the fact that most users to do not have java disabled on their browsers. Java is almost an industry standard nowadays and some of the highest traffic sites (including sportsbooks & casinos) on the web would look ridiculous without java enabled.

Either way, I find BetUS to be very honest in their tracking of players. I personally have sent a few big players that have told me exactly how much they deposited and played and have compared them with my affiliate reports and they always have been spot-on. BetUS continues to be one of my most profitable programs. Although, they have recently been a bit slow on payments. However, I believe its only because they want to make sure all the information and player sheets a properly transferred over to their new affiliate software and that all affiliates get credit for every dollar you sent them. Looks like they'd rather personally go down your entire sheet, then send you a check that is missing player's action.

I would give them a shot if I were you. In the 7 years I have been working with sportsbook affiliate programs, I have had a hell of a lot lot more success with them, compared to some of the other books you promote on your sports betting site.

I am an affiliate with you and would be interested in your response to Rick's questions. I noticed the javascript links (which I will never use) in the backend the other day when I was updating for UFC105.

I use a tracking backend that I built in php and javascript just won't work for that. Plus - Rick is exactly right... many browsers have JS turned off. What then?

Did you read Erin's (BetUS's Affiliate Program Director) reply above? She pretty much answered all the questions.

Erin is right when she says that it's a very small percentage of users that do not have Java enabled. According to TheCounter.com is around 13% (very small minority) and decreasing; https://www.thecounter.com/stats/2003/May/javas.php. I guarantee it's even less amongst active online bettors as a lot of quality gambing sites have some java tools enabled. I am adding a new odds tool to all my sites that uses Java to feed lines.

However, she also said that you can use HTML links if you want and they have no plans on disabling the tracking from them. I use the HTML links as well.

There's nothing unethical about offering affiliates HTML links as well as java links with additional features.

I am not quite willing to lose 13% (even if it's a small minority) of my players, though. haha. I think I'll stick with HTML.

That report from the count was from 2003 as well. I bet it's even less then 10% now that don't use Java. There are way too many popular webstes out there that require java.
