I've been relaxing and rehabbing my liver after 7 1/2 long years of doing 100's of conferences and pitchers of Jagermeister with this great group of colleagues. I have seen ups and downs and been through some, but I'm back here and Casinomesister's great site, and also the New Affiliate Forum Alliance lately.
After expanding my teams and doing a lot of Reputation Management for some pretty hardcore clients in Casino and Dating (after all, broken hearts and broken wallets can get pretty brutal), This has opened a few new approaches to
SEO, content and backlinking because although it's easier to apply
SEO to brands than it is competitive keywords, It has shed a lot of new lights I'm working on releasing here over the coming months. Maybe Michael will publish the full article in the GPWA Magazine. It would probably be an abridged version but prove invaluable.
My teams have been tripled what they used to be and we are testing several new bespoke and 3rd party tools, as well as pulling and publishing information on Blackhat Tactics and Site Protection. And when I say 'releasing', I mean I'll be giving you various Blackhat tools that are being used (as we speak) to using JS or sql injection, and other strategies used to hijack your commissions. I have a dozen DDOS tools, Trojans, RATS, spoofs password crackers and a ton of browser tips
tweaks for SEO.
I'm publishing these in the interest of knowing and hopefully not needing to know how they work and how to identify or prevent them.
There is a lot of crossover between blackhat and Affiliates - more than you can imagine. I'm going to cover those with you in detail and I reply to all questions. If I don't know it I probably know someone that does, or we may even put your theory to the test in our network. So feel free to ask any questions!
CONTENT GAP
With that said, I wanted to cover a couple new tools we have been testing for 6 months now and have been seeing impressive results. There are actually 2 different versions now and both have their own merits. You can decide which one to use.
The tools in question are
hrefs and
SEMRush.
These are two have lots of great (internal) tools I have personally used since day ONE since finding out what they could do. Yes, they cost. No these aren't affiliate links. Yes, you can share access/membership, although there may be limits as to projects, campaigns or keywords.
I think the origins of these tools is based on a tool I helped evolve 12 years ago into a great
SEO and PPC tool called
Hittail. Hittail was originally designed to analyze raw log files from your site and tell you when, from where, and what keywords/keyword strings sent visitors to your site in REAL TIME. These results were then passed to writers for content creation. This was a great idea because somewhere you are already ranking for many of the terms it gives you. Further growth added PPC integration and auto-uploading keyword and keyword sets into Google, Yahoo and MSN PPC campaigns in a few clicks.
The key to this was identifying the terms people used to find your site, rather than Google's antiquated and eventual elimination of their decent KW (PPC based) tools. There are plenty of tools today that can pull information from your raw logs now, but then it was a line-by-line unaffordable tactic.
This is not to be mistaken with KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) which is comparing your results to competing sites on the usual kw/kw sets.
These two tools identified
gaps in content or a lack thereof, which is huge. Google has shown many times that there are tens of millionsof first-time searches or Long Tail.
This lends itself to the "content is king" statement we have heard for years because people advance and get smarter about how Google and other engines work and they use all kinds of variations of terms you would never be able to identify. This is called '
Semantics', or associated keywords. So if an article mentioned Ute's, Lory's and Trucks; it was about those 'big pulling thingy's' and applied to different geo-targeted markets. This would then be filtered into the results. For some reason, most SEO's and Agencies are only discovering the effects of LT Traffic - https://goo.gl/RfLLTM. MOZ got it in June 2016 and HubSpot actually got it in 2011, but this seemed to fall by the wayside.Long-tails (3+ words) convert 2.5x more than head terms; 26-35 character keywords produce 66% more profitability over keywords with 11-20 characters. LT CONVERTS 80% MORE THAN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY TERMS.
Google bought Applied Latent Semantics (https://goo.gl/FX8qpW) in 2003 and then on Sep 16, 2005, Google filed for a patent on the process -
https://www.google.com/patents/US8312021. They started using this method in 2005 for their Adwords program, in the interest of growing Advertiser spend (it worked).
They also use another process in their algorithms called LSS or Latent Semantic Similarity.
Where
Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) is a technique in natural written language processing, in particular, distributional semantics, of analyzing relationships between a set of documents and the terms they contain by producing a set of concepts related to the documents and terms;
Latent Semantic Similarity feels like an obvious transition for search algorithms purely based on the knowledge that the difference between LSA and LSS is more a linguistic one. Similarities in speech (Ie. having a Kentucky draw or a Cockney accent) becomes more important than an antiquated approach being used in Search engines today...People speak VERY differently than they write.
WTF does this have to do with me??
One of every five searches is done via SIRI, Google, Amazon Echo or whatever smartphone you use has.
Where we do not expect written search to ever overcome verbal search, online mobile has outranked desktop pc's for several years now (which no one thought of back in
SEO's heyday) so an adaptation is definite forward-thinking.
Google's index, much like LSI 13 years ago, will encompass new AI to utilize this wealth of information and customized, accurate search results.
It takes the big guys 6-18 months to act on big changes like any type of AI versus LSA and THIS IS YOUR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY.
So let's get back to hrefs and SEMRush...
Both have tools called Content Gap or Analysis that look at your site and other top ranking sites (for the terms you identified through Hittail) and shows you where there is a lack of quality information on the topic. All sorts of metrics such as KEI and overall content strength are stats that are available through using these tools.
Use these suggestions for your new content. You will outrank on LT terms that convert 80% more than secondary or primary/Hollywood terms.
'The low-hanging fruit'
In a nutshell that's what they do. You'll need to explore the various filters and analytical settings each offer, but I see this as being a 5-Star Tip due to;
1. Audio Search is
currently 1 of 5 searches
2. People are smarter and using 4-6 word phrases in search (whether desktop, mobile or Bluetooth devices like Echo or SIRI)
3. Currently, you only get the "top result" on Google Voice, but I see that changing somehow in the future, but for now you need the top position to get the top audible result. Google has struggled with getting voice search perfected (or anywhere near) because according to
Gizmodo,
"Google Voice has always suffered from one huge failing: Google does not care about it."

In closing I feel that due to the resulting movements of Google, Yahoo and other search engines in adapting to mobile search with the inception of LSA, announcing recently (that yet again...) site speed is cardinal, and especially considering AMP, the next major shift in search will be Audio Search, which carries many other ways to pull more traffic through to your website than traditional means.
Would I call it AI?? - no, because it's still too stupid. It's good on the "A" but not the "I" yet. But this gives Affiliates a significant edge over Operators in the short-term (6-24 months).
Content Gap/Analysis, Competitor Content, and ranking analysis, identifying the tens of millions of
FIRST TIME SEARCH keyword sets being used and then building quality content and backlinks for these keyword sets, are what Affiliates need to commit themselves to in 2018.
I'd appreciate your thoughts as it's taken months of analysis and hundreds' of hours the past year to pick my Top 12 SEO Tips for 2018, and I think even beyond subdomains that I have harped on for several years, backlink strategies and Greyhat/Blackhat tactics have been in my top 3, this one has made it to our #1 spot.
