Default Is Martin Ødegaard the next football superstar?

It seems that not a week goes by without the next Ronaldo or Messi being unearthed. A couple of step-overs and a few well taken goals, combined with a slickly edited YouTube video, can quickly propel previously unheard of youth talent into the media spotlight.

For every Raheem Sterling, Luke Shaw or John Stones there are hundreds of Freddu Adus and Cherno Sambas, so it pays to take the potential of these declared world-beaters with a pinch of salt. Once in a while, however, there are players that you can’t help but sit up and take note of; Martin Ødegaard, 15 year old Norwegian midfielder, is a prime example.

When he played against Steaua Bucharest 2 weeks ago in Champions League was not that great.

He is only 15 years old though - I think he's going to grow fast playing at this level so young

He's on track to be a quality professional - but there are still plenty of pitfalls along the way.
11 games for Stromgodset is no pedigree to pick from.

    50% of playing overseas.
1% chance of playing for a top 10 club.
0.1% of being thought of as "World Class" .. who was the last Norwegian to manage that?
0.001% of being the next Lionel Messi

That's no "knock" on the 15yo kid - just a fact of life - there are probably 50,000 professional footballers in Europe.

At least if he doesn't quite reach the heights of Lionel Messi he has a chance of becoming Norway's next John Arne Riise!
