Looking forward to read this issue.
Haven't read the article yet so I don't know the angle, but even now - a one or two person 'team' can still quite achievably earn a comfortable six figure annual salary, or more. Just gotta know your stuff and make sure you enjoy what you do and don't work with dodgy affiliate programs.

Very true - and I'd just add it's important to understand your capabilities and define your niche, for example breaking news - it's really hard to compete with the big companies that have 24/7 staff to get articles up within minutes of news breaking. Take a day, dig deeper, come up with your own unique take on things, etc.

Completely agree and you've chosen a perfect example of how an experienced affiliate can still fail at projects. I pumped thousands of news stories into Google/other news outlets for many years until they (justifiably - no compaints from me) pulled my site(s) as a new source because I'd basically given up on it. Getting the traffic is one (difficult) thing - monetising it is even harder sometimes. And that's about 0.5% of what you'll need to know to make money in this game. Still, I wouldn't change jobs for anything.

All these years, after some heavy losses, I understood one thing, never speak about your business with anybody, never share any info, inclusive with other aff managers/directors..etc, in this business you don't have friends. Also a big issue with aff programs is the player shaving....have a nice day

99% you are spot-on. But I have made a few genuine friends on both sides of this industry: solid. decent people who I would willingly do anything for, including going into debt to help. You're right, though. You are, for almost all people. The only exceptions I can think of whilst I type this (so I will omit people, sorry) are Renee + team @ CR (where else?), AussieDave, Martyn Beacon, Connie Burstin, Greg Gomez, Paul at DM and SEVERAL affy posters here who are too numerous to mention. But not many aff managers in there considering I've been working with them for 20 years. Apologies if I've missed out anyone cool, like Mr Medl who has helped me out loads.

Fully agree. The main problem is to find that people. I see a lot of lazy people who are full of ambitions to earn millions doing nothing. When it comes to hardwork they dissapear instantly on the first questions. You cannot run around and tell everybody what you do and how much earning. This is the reason that to find talented people for a team is close to impossible in the affiliate buisness.

I would say, having been through it twice, that it's hard to find talent, not impossible. It's hard to find top talent in any industry - we sometimes forget many of the challenges we face are not confined purely to our niche area.
It's been a fair while since I wrote the above article however, I still stand by the thoughts given.
