Interesting timing right after the HCU and the previous core update - tweaks on the HCU? Although they did something similar after the August 2022 HCU.

Spam update started yesterday as well.

Let's see if they chuck in that promised sponsored content update as well.

Gambling Domains: Small clear out of some of the domains we've been hoarding on Dan - see the list here. Prices negotiable, and willing to swap for decent links.

Relentless this of late, rolling out two updates concurrently will muddy the waters undoubtedly - their intention perhaps.

True. Maybe they didn't like how much people were digging in to the HCU.

I've said this for a long time, but some of the google updates aren't about search quality, they're just mucking with the dials to make it harder to identify patterns. Or at least bits of them are.

We have a few sites that either move in tandem (eg: when one goes up, so does the other) or move in opposite directions (eg: when one goes up, the other goes down) but with an incredibly strong correlation.

Has anyone noticed anything from these last two, btw? Moz cast is pretty low at the moment, which suggest it perhaps hasn't done much yet (or won't do much).

I didn't notice much until the end of the recent update cycles.

IMHO, one way to spot big changes during an update is to watch #1 rankings for a few competitive keywords.

Realistically, Google doesn't care too much about getting #15+ right. Right now, any taps beyond #10 reveal silly video, news, ad, and article tiles. They know full well most people stop at #5 or less now.

So when I see #1s trading hands, that's at least one indication of a big change.

Monitoring Ahrefs KW counts, knowing there's a few days lag, is also useful.

HCU destroyed every site i know except media sites, but anyone that was a leader producing content and i mean good content got smashed, some people were left untouched but i have not seen anyone actually grow except, forbes, times union, usa today with ai produced sponsored content.. everyone else was hit 50-60%.. HCU imo went wrong hence another broadcore in less than a month after the last finished, im seeing any site with authority sell sponsored posts, mens health, a site about aninimals, its out of control. no real experts just ai generated junk everywhere

In the Thai market, we suffered a big hit from all the spam sites, the update is against spam, and seems like it was just improving it

From observations, after the update I noticed that it decreases positions on sites where there is little content, undermined sites where AI content

Interesting statements being made at the moment: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...ems-36217.html

Apparently the helpful content update hasn't done the helpful content bit yet.

Interesting with this 'hidden gems' concept when they eventually get around to it, if there's too much emphasis/weight put on this kind of thing then it opens the door to another form of spamming/manipulation. Too little weight and the real gems will remain hidden, swamped by parasite pages. A never-ending battle.

The mainstream sites I own (finance niche) all got killed. Biggest drop I've seen ever from an update. The usual suspected are still at top of searches - Nerd Wallet, Investopeida, Forbes

Google announced on X that the October core update is now over.
    Carnage.
But relieved to see that OutlookIndia is still ranking high.
