Default Facebook's press event to do w/ gambling?

I really think facebook might have something in store to announce today that will affect our industry. And if not addressed in today's event, then surely facebook will have something coming during the course of 2013.

I doubt they'll be making such a big fuss about allowing pages for gambling sites, although they should be setting up a special team to deal with online gambling & Facebook

I feel like those rumors were 100% manufactured to produce the article linked to in OP.

There is basically 0 support for thesis that today's announcement will be gambling-related.

I don't believe for 1 minute that they would create such a buzz for gambling. It's a load of invented bull.

More likely some new hardware or a proper Facebook app of some sorts.

I expected that they will release something releated to search. Well they did but not as big as I have expected.

I expected to see a competitor of Google actually. It makes sense for facebook to lock down their users and provide an own search engine. This will eliminate the need to go to Google for most Facebook users. They are going in to that direction but just not that rapid as I have expected.

Interesting points bboy, I never really stopped to think about it, but you might be right.

I wonder if they do move more in that direction if Google would then devalue their content leading to eventually not spidering them at all.

They have the other half of my table, I am going to be in their ear all night!

Anyway back to launch, I think its awesome and very exciting, basically search but not at all like you would normally expect. They call it graph search where you are basically searching the social graph..... I think there is a lot of opportunity that comes with it and will see if we can get a speaker at lac

Here's the link I read about it..

I think this is an extremely savvy way to go about competing with Google. They're not going to beat Google at it's own game, so change the rules of the game.

it's more like advanced search with smart sentence structure. it's not the wheel all over again, but something that will help fb grow... even more.

Seems like the overall response was tepid. Methinks they overhyped the launch...

Remmber and tell then how uninteresting gambling is, the difficult legal situation, the boredom, no money in it, too many scams. ..... you get the point.

    agree!
although it helped change the topic from discussing numbers of accounts closed in the UK and elsewhere in the past year...
