    Exclamation Bet365 Suspended in India

    Dear All,

In a shocking email which was recieved by me from my affiliate manager says

" This email is to let you know that the business has made the decision to no longer accept players from India. Please can you ensure you stop any campaigns/content that you’re currently running in this geo with immediate effect"

Considering the major traffic for bet365 was from India, this is really shocking. What could be the reason. Just wanted to have some discussions here if anyone can throw some light on this. Looking forward for some insights.

Note: If I contact my bet365 affiliate manager or the support team. For sure they would say it's management decision and would not reveal it.

As online betting/casino is illegal/lawed out in majority states of the country, on the other hand Bet365 is known as a legit bookie with tons of licenses its all pretty much clear for me?!

No it hasn't. Hence I am surprised with this decision.

British bookmakers/exchange like Betfair, Matchbook, Bet365, Smarkets claim to be operating legally and licensed and are backing from various markets.

You ask bet365 if they operate in China, they will answer that no, you can't promote them in gray markets....

In fact Betfair, for example, has hundreds, thousands of clone sites for gray markets with separate Curacao licenses or no license at all. Bet365, Matchook and a few others operate similarly, of course without affiliate programs etc.

So Bet365 will still be in India, but no longer for affiliates.Admittedly Bet365 to a lesser extent than Betfair, for example, but still.

It is sometimes said that India is the largest English-speaking country. So I think affiliates can easily find other bookmakers to promote in this market.

Is there any chance to see Bet365 operate with the clone sites for gray markets in the near future? Because in India people are so used to Bet365 only because of its User friendly interface.

I don't know about bet365, but Betfair clones often differ strongly in design from the mother site. Except for the layout of Back/Lay bets here they are often very similar. I don't currently follow it but a few years ago the Chinese bet365 sites looked similar, then different.

I think like you that it's mainly about Bet365's very good interface, I myself was used to them many years ago.

However, there is a gulf between the quality of their markets and, for example, Betfair. For this reason, as I mentioned earlier, there are many more Betfair clones, as Bet365 is exclusively for recreational players.

As for India itself, I noticed that some affiliate sites try to redirect players from Bet365 to Betwinner. I guess because of some graphic similarities etc. However, Betwinner has a poor reputation on the forum. And of course it's not in the same league as bet365

I not shocked, surprised or bothered by Bet365's withdrawal from India.
It's a low value, high fraud market with dubious regulations.

That’s a shame, but it shouldn’t really matter, because India has low value anyway and it’s corrupt, as Gooner put it.

After all, it is the most populous country in the world, and thus it is the 3rd-5th economy in the world.
    In addition, largely English-speaking.

In addition, the huge popularity of many sports with cricket at the forefront.

I wouldn't completely ignore the value of this market.

    Don't teach them
But yeah, they are sick cricket bets, and one of the most insane live dealer GEO's anyway.
To judge the Indian market as low value (or corrupt (US isn't ?)) is just uninformed or ignorant.

@eenzoo - I never said that there wasn’t corruption in the US market. There's corruption throughout the entire world and throughout our industry. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and I respect yours. It's just that the Indian market has never really worked well for me.

I respectfully disagree with you on this. It may be a corrupt market, but not one that I would dismiss out of hand. India has a large and heterogeneous population, and online gambling continues to gain popularity.

I'm just basing my observation on 22 years of activity.
90-95% of traffic out of Indian IP's are bots and scrapers, the few human visitors are looking for no deposit offers and other bonuses.

Only about 3% of the countries households earn above 300,000 INR (that's approx $3,500 USD) and works out to about $10 to $12 per day.
Spin it any way you want - it's low value, high fraud, and dubious at best.

Of course it's possible you'll hook a "raj" or one of his off-spring - but the real value of online gambling in India for affiliates is very low.
Perhaps if you run a cricket site - or can hook into the casino game that is flavour of the month in India then you can make a buck.

They are paving the way I guess to enter India on more of regulated level. I guess this will be a long time in the future considering each state of India must agree on what direction to go in.

The only way sports betting will become legal in India, if Reliance India or the Tata group decide to open online casinos. Ambani can buy every politician without even blining an eye.

Default bet365 to exit India, Ghana and Norway, all within a week...

I wonder what's next? Europe as a whole?
