Question Any open payment issues with Rome?

Rome Partners approached me about working together again. From what I've been able to tell the specific payment issues raised on the forum and others related to the same issue from back in 2009 are all behind them now. But before talking with them more about coming back on board I wanted to confirm -- is anyone aware of open balances remaining from that issue? I'd like to make sure things are in a good state with them. It sounds like they may be, but I wanted to confirm with others here first.

As far as I've seen they're very interested in operating responsibly and I'm not aware of specific issues that are open from the problems they had last year. And from a conversation I had with their CEO they seem to be taking an affiliate-friendly route with respect to treatment of funds confiscated by payment processors (as opposed to some other sites recently that are viewing those problems the same way as a chargeback).

I believe in second chances when someone works to correct an issue and shows genuine effort and genuine outcomes to the effort. Part of disincentivising rogue behavior is differentiating between errors and malice. Otherwise what incentive would anyone who makes an error have of taking a corrective path? So, my goal with this thread is to see if what I'm hearing about the progress and changes the program has made is in sync with actual payments. You mentioned you think they may owe you but you'd have to check to know for sure -- would you check on that and let me know? I'd like to make sure I know the facts about the program here.

To be fair he is asking for feedback so he does the right thing - If you wern't paid or they were unethical then step up and send him the info and they will investigate. If you don't then you can't really complain who they promote. Its like moaning about the government and not voting

    Good point Alex. I agree.

Lots0, you mentioned you hadn't checked if you were owed any cash. I'd say check, and chase up and put bad blood behind you. It's a chance for everyone to start over with a clean slate.

I think Rome are doing the right thing by coming back to the forums and asking for feedback. Seems like they are interested in gaining credibility, and that's always a good place to start.

Yes, they do!! And they can, if they are listed here. They are counting on a certain percentage of affil, both old and new, signing up and giving them space.

They want to come back 'cause (and progs sign up here) it's worth the money to be listed here. The listing itself is an endorsement of the prog., and enough affs will see their name and trust them.

I have asked Rome has looked into your account based on your post and according to their records your account is current. It would be helpful if you would be able to check simply as a matter of confirmation.

I think what hasn't gotten talked about in Rome's case is the question of what caused the payment delays to begin with, and that is where I think their actions are admirable rather than hurtful. Similar to Rivals that had processor confiscations, Rome faced major processor confiscations in 2009. Instead of treating this as non-income or as chargebacks for purposes of calculating affiliate commissions (as many Rivals are currently doing), Rome took the most affiliate friendly route available and treated the processor confiscations as regular income, with affiliate commissions calculated as though the funds came through. With the funds never coming through, and Rome affiliates accruing commissions as though they did, there was a cashflow problem -- they couldn't pay out on the regular schedule since the funds never arrived, but they did pay out over time as they received cash. I hope that clarifies that it was not an issue of choosing to delay regular payments, but an issue of choosing to pay commissions in the same circumstances that has caused other programs to choose not to pay.

I see your comment as essentially asking "where is the line between what problems can be moved passed vs. what problems can never be rectified," and I appreciate that point because I think it is a very important question. Personally, in believe that Grand Prive's actions were intentionally designed to avoid paying affiliates, that they did not rethink their position based on response to the issues caused, and that they've been both deceptive in their subsequent relations. Of these concerns that make Grand Prive so severe, based on my knowledge of the situation I believe that none were present in Rome's case. Specifically, the initial payment problems were caused by processor confiscations (akin to the recent confiscations seen through Rival brands) and Rome's response deciding to pay affiliates the money that they never received from the processors -- in contrast to many Rival brand's decision to treat such funds as chargebacks or otherwise not as player losses. Basically the payments issues arose because Rome did the right thing in terms of allocating earnings to affiliates even though the money never came through to Rome, and there were major payment delays because paying out on money that never came in strains cash flow. I think there could have been better communication around the fact that the reason for the issue was their choosing to do the right think, but I also think it is important not to penalize a program for making the positive decision that program's who don't prioritize affiliates as highly have (very recently) chosen the negative path on.

The question I'm ask myself is "which programs have acted in a manner that should disqualify them from having reach in communicating their messages?" I think that there is an important difference between unintentional operational problems (however severe) and malicious behavior. There is no argument -- neither from me, nor do I believe from Rome -- that there were significant operational problems in the software functionality and the customer support. These speak to performance, not to ethics.

The portion that I do believe could potentially speak to ethics is the question of whether payments were made, and in the context of a delay, what caused the delay. Based on both the reports from Rome themselves and from the affiliates who've shared their comments here, it appears that the payments are back in order. And thus we're left with the question of the cause of the delays, and I go back to the fact that as I understand it the main issue was the fact that they viewed they had earnings commitments they needed to adhere to in precisely the same set of circumstances that has caused other programs to treat as non-earnings (i.e. processor confiscations with the program/operator never receiving the funds). This did cause delays, and the delays were long. This was a matter of being "between a rock and a hard place" with either delays or taking the worse path of treating the non-received funds as unsuccessful deposits (not accruing commissions to affiliates). But given that the delays were caused by an underlying positive decision when others have decided differently, I think it is not correct to disqualify them from having an avenue to communicate their messages if the disqualification would be based on the negative lining of taking the positive path.

We have never been paid by them. Thanks for reminding me to chase them up.

The way I see it their software sucks, their payments are slow or non-existent, but most importantly they lost what little trust they had by ripping off players (intentionally or not) - which is the most serious thing in my mind, far more important than collecting a few hundred bucks.

There are hundreds of casinos to choose from. Why waste your time giving 2nd chances to the dodgy or incompetent ones?

I feel sorry for new affiliates who read through your sponsorship list thinking it actually relates to how reputable the programs are. For goodness sake, you have Euro Partners, Ace Revenue and cPays / Affiliates United up there as "platinum" ... I guess in that company Rome doesn't look so bad after all.

Arrow From Noah at Rome Partners

Hello Muppet and anyone else who believes they are owed payment,

If you are owed payment over $500, please send the details either to me at [email protected] or to [email protected] (Affiliate Manager). And we will make sure the issue is settled.

I understand that you remain skeptical and to you we seem dodgy. Regardless, we are making good on promises, and if you are owed - then you will be paid. I will not respond to irrelevant and untrue allegations. We cannot convince you with words we are not rogue, but rather let our recent and future actions speak for us.

Please send me your details so I can help.

    Kind Regards,

    Noah

Hi Noah, So if an affiliate is owed less than $500 they are screwed? What about an affiliate that is owed $450? Not worth the effort?

I am glad I dumped Rome long before all the crap started floating.

    Arrow From Noah

    Hi Chips,

This is hardly news, this has always part of our T&C and we have never hid it. But if you or anyone else has a pending payout that close to $500, we won't be anal about it, send me your details and amount.

    Cheers

They think they can anyway ... the more programs GPWA accepts money from, the lesser the value it is to the programs to be listed here and most certainly the lesser the value the community becomes as a whole.

Seriously there are 8-9 dozen programs with more junk being added daily. They are all competing for the 10,000 affiliates they are told that are here - too bad for them 80%+ of that number are non active registrants.

Money talks and BS walks away with a free pass.
