Amaya Folds Full Tilt Poker: APCW Perspectives for 19 February, 2016

Amaya Gaming has announced that the Full Tilt brand will no longer be maintained,
and that the player base will be absorbed into PokerStars.
This move will have fallout for players and industry professionals,
but what does it mean for webmasters?
Also, more match fixing and integrity issues in sports betting.

I know that Amaya paid USD $4.9 BILLION for both PokerStars and FullTilt brands in 2014 ..
Seems amazing that 20 months later they are shutting down one of the operations.

I agree that is a little surprising.

I wonder if they feel they can make the Stars brand that much more profitable to make up the balance.

It will likely mean some jobs lost and maybe in the end customer/player services will be more efficient, but if it ends up in a large loss to the player base, even in the short term it could end up being quite costly.

This is basically a non-event for poker players. Most of the regs on Full Tilt were already regs on PokerStars. Full Tilt has fallen out of the top 10 world wide poker rooms according to pokerscout. Stars is 30x larger than FTP. Accounting for the overlap in players, this might boost Stars by 1.5%, and I think even that is a stretch.

I agree that the brand has been in decline, partially because they've been running it down for a while now. However, it does seem incredulous that they paid so much for such a massive brand only to close it down later.

I'm sure they've done the numbers though and it all makes sense. I'd love to see them!!

I think what many of you are failing to realize is that they did not pay all that money for the brand. The money was paid partially for the brand, yes, but mostly to curry favor with the US government so that they could re-enter the US markets at some future date.

Yepppp. The maneuvering to shake the "bad actor" label is huge.
