(This interview was originally published in the July 2023 issue of the GPWA Times Magazine.)
You list numerous sites on your GPWA profile. Are they all still active and functional and, if so, how do you manage all of them at once?
All of my sites are still active and functional. The way in which manage them is through a process of continuous review so that I am certain that users have the benefit of the most up to date informational content about where to access the best bonuses and have optimal playing experiences.
My most productive site is playslots4realmoney.com. Players that visit my site comment on the ease of its usability to help them to find their game of choice. They enjoy having the practice of using free demo games to fine tune their strategy before having to formally commit to a paid site. Users have also said that they have benefitted from the valuable information and bonus codes that they have found on playslots4realmoney.com.
What’s your system for any of the rankings that you provide on your sites? What needs to happen for your rankings to change over time?
When ranking a site, there are many factors that contribute to a site’s status. First and foremost, I rely heavily on the valuable feedback that I get from members of my playslots4realmoney community. Community members speak out on the site’s social media pages and through email directly to me. Comments on the ease of use and selection of games of the site being reviewed, as well as the entertainment value and overall customer service are factors to be considered.
How did you assemble your team of gaming experts on the playslots4realmoney.com website?
Our team of gaming experts at playslots4realmoney.com is comprised of experienced players who collectively share their ideas to create a unified vision that our programmers are able to make a reality.
When we interviewed you back in October, 2015 (GPWA Times Magazine, Issue 33) you told us you “love building brands.?Is that still the case?
While I still love the idea of building brands, I have found that it is most beneficial to focus and prioritize on certain things based on the feedback of my user base. My professional focus has been on providing valuable content to slot machine users who are looking for honest reviews and valuable, up to date information on my websites, through social media and via my newsletter.
Is content still what sets your sites apart from the competition?
The content on my sites sets me apart from my competition. While there are many sites on the internet that will claim to provide slot users with an edge in playing their favorite games, the content found on my sites is accurate, informative, up to date, easy for users to navigate on various platforms and, most importantly, honest.
What shifts, if any, have you seen between the Canadian and American audiences over the last seven-plus years?
Over the last seven-plus years there have been some shifts amongst the North American audiences. While my focus has not been on American players, there have been several states and provinces that have licensed online casinos allowing sportsbooks to take a large share of the market.
My focus has been on the market in Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. While regulations vary amongst them, I have found users in those areas most responsive to my site.
You have a staff of writers that help you generate content. What is your management style?
It is my goal to manage a team that is able to brainstorm and communicate ideas together so that we are able to produce exceptional content that is accurate, informative, up to date, easy for users to navigate on various platforms and, most importantly, honest. I have found that the most effective means for reaching this goal is to work with a few individuals that are dedicated to helping me to achieve this.
How do you decide on which affiliate programs to work with? What have you learned over the years about picking and choosing the right affiliate programs for your sites?
When beginning to work with an affiliate program, I confirm that they are endorsed by a reputable organization, such as GPWA. When that has been established, I proceed with caution and closely monitor how the affiliate’s players are treated through feedback from the playslots4realmoney.com community. If the affiliate’s customer service is good and the user’s experiences are positive then I increase their level of exposure on my site.
In 2015, you stated that if you could change one thing in the industry, it would be “to have more companies be held responsible for the terms and conditions that they understood and agreed upon when the affiliate signed up.?Do you feel companies are making progress in this area or is there still a long way to go?
I continue to believe that all companies should be held responsible for their terms and conditions that they understood and agreed upon when the affiliate signed up. It has been my experience since 2015 that some companies have made progress toward being more responsible, while others have a long way to go.
What about SEO? What’s changed in that realm since we last spoke to you?
So much has changed, like with Google’s algos like RankBrain, helpful content update, BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers), and others. I spend the majority of the day managing SEO. I also have some people that give me a hand with that because it has become increasingly more difficult. Content is still king, but there is so much more that goes into it.
When you were growing up, what profession did you dream about getting into?
That’s a really good question! Since the days when Nintendo was new, I always wanted to design video games. I enjoyed the challenge and loved the graphics. I would attain all of the knowledge I could regarding the strategies to win!
It’s interesting to think that as an adult, my profession involves helping others to learn strategies to be successful in their favorite games.
Do you still practice martial arts in particular Hapkido and Taekwondo? What else do you do when you’re not working?
I do practice my taekwondo forms, kicks and strikes by myself. I started to train in Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu jitsu. It is one of my favorite hobbies and a great exercise. Aside from martial arts, I enjoy playing the guitar and hanging out with my puppy for relaxation.
When we last spoke in 2015, you told us that Back to the Future 2 was your favorite movie. If you could get in a DeLorean time machine and go back to when we last spoke, what is something surprising that you would tell yourself about the online gambling industry?
I would tell myself to get started earlier when I was in college in the 1990s. I would also stress the importance of SEO and how fast things change.
Previously you said if you could invite any five people, living or dead, to dinner that you would invite Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, Sun Tzu, and Niccol?Machiavelli. Would you still invite the same people or would you subtract and add new people? If so, why?
I would add Ralph Waldo Emerson, Confucius, Socrates and Plato to learn more about their philosophy. I believe that it is through a positive mindset that the greatest human experience is had. I also believe that we can better prepare for the future by studying the past.
If someone were visiting you in Montreal for 24 hours and had never been to the area where you live, where would you bring them and why?
I would take them to our great city! There is so much to do and fun to be had! We have great restaurants and pubs!
